WELCOME TO EL CIELO.

Situated on the Escondido Rim in the middle of the high Chihuahuan desert, between the towns of Marfa and Alpine, at the end of the road you will find El Cielo Ranch.

The ranch boasts 20,000 acres of prime big game hunting and excellent wing shooting. El Cielo has large populations of native mule deer, pronghorn, javelina, and blue quail. We're also fortunate enough to have one of the largest aoudad herds in the Trans-Pecos region. All of this makes for challenging and rewarding hunts.

Originally established in 1882 as El Rancho Escondido, the ranch was purchased by Nancy and Nyle Maxwell in 2016 and renamed to El Cielo. Translated from Spanish, the name means both "big sky" and "heavens" - and when you are sitting at the fire pit on the edge of the world, gazing across miles of wide blue sky and high desert, you can see how the name fits.

Surrounded by mountains, there are abundant 50-mile views from the tops of the mountain rims. Elephant Mountain, Santiago Peak, Big Bend State Park and the McDonald Observatory are some of the iconic landmarks in sight of the ranch.

Our headquarters area consists of a historic main house dating back to early 1900s, a recently-built guest house, and a bunk house. In addition, it features a pool, a hot tub, a pergola-covered fireplace and seating area, and a large lawn.

Other amenities include a regulation skeet and trap range with a covered pavilion and a rifle range. Miles of well-maintained roads making getting around the ranch a simple affair.
